With 16 days left in CA, the intense feeling of our departure is mounting. I have lived in CA for over 25 yrs, 10 of which in Southern CA. Reality sets in when friends and family are texting (emailing) about the move, to which I respond, "Well be leaving in 17 days". It will be difficult to part ways with some of our friends. There are many friendships that was built on years of, laughing, climbing, hiking, camping, dancing and many nights of social imbibe. Everyone one of us has an internal compass guiding us (trust me, last year at this moment, I would have not predicted this "reality", but I am very thankful to have met V, A, and T). My compass is pointing out of CA.
V said not to dwell on it, and I would agree with her. Granted the memories are great, but the feeling of vacating the area always illicit a melancholic tone, with sadness following behind soon after. My compass is telling me, the direction V and I have chosen is the correct path. It is the path not taken, therefore the path will be difficult and we will be met with obstacles and challenges. The greater the risk, the greater the reward... In this case, I have someone to share jokes with when times are tough, so how bad can it be? I am sure we will stumble or even fall on this path. When you have a partner to share the trail, it's much easier to get back up (even if your in quicksand, now you have someone to go look for a branch or rope...if you were alone, then you are "stuck like Chuck"). Knowing that I have great friends here in CA, family in TX, and V in my life...I feel like we can do anything... even tackling this move. Now back to work.

The Count Down Begins!
Beginning tomorrow we will have 21 days till our departure date. It really sunk in this weekend, when life slowed down enough for us to actually have some time to think and have a conversation other than the basics of communication. It also sunk in how much we have to do before then. People keep asking us how the preparations are going and our response is, we haven't even started packing. Usually, I'm the kind of person who is on top of this sort of thing; but I have my priorities outlined and right now my priority is studying for my exam next Monday and Tuesday and then once that is over I will direct my full attention to preparing for our move.
Another thing we realized was that we needed to plan a get together with all our friends before we leave, so we can say our goodbye's. This is the hard part, saying goodbye. We have made so many great friends and it will be hard to say goodbye. I'm sure it won't be goodbye forever. We are both excited to be making this move together and looking forward to the new experience and opportunities.
We have yet to reserve a rental truck and trailer for N's car. I have been collecting boxes thanks to our lovely Office Manager who has been saving me boxes every time she gets supplies. I'm trying to wrap up things at work before I leave, but with the nature of my work, it is kind of hard. There will be things left undone for whoever takes on my projects when I leave. I wish that I could see them all through to construction, but that could be a year or more with some of them. Unfortunately, I can't continue my current position at my firm while working from home in Texas as N is going to be able to do. Hopefully, I will be able to find a job with another firm that I enjoy as much as I do my current position; if I'm lucky maybe I will be able to find the kind of projects I would like to work on and work from home on my own. One can dream!
Lots to do, now back to work!

The Planning Stage
If you are reading this, you are probably a friend or relative of the Naro-Violet Herd and wondering why we decided to up and move to Texas for peet's sake. And since we know you will all miss us and want to know every detail that there is about this great migration, we have created this lovely blog to help you follow along.
Since we met one fateful day last January and soon after the Herd was formed; we have discussed where to settle down and expand the Herd. With the economy heading towards the point of no return and both of us experiencing major pay cuts and the possibility of facing unemployment in the near future and no jobs. We decided it was time to move to a place where the cost of living was lower and the possibility of owning a home in the near future is much greater. Enter the great state of Texas. Why Texas, you ask? N has family there, including his mom and two younger brother's and several Aunt's and Uncle's and 42 cousins (not really sure about that number, but there are a lot!). His family has been trying to get him to move to the area for a while now and recently it has looked more and more inviting.
So after several months of discussion, we made the final decision to take the leap. Whether we fall flat on our face has yet to be determined (just kidding!). We will document the upcoming migration here for all to enjoy. Right now we are in the planning and preparation stage. Our unofficial departure date is December 21st, that should give us enough time to make it to Texas before A's Birthday and of course Christmas.
Wish us luck!
